Diwali at Telluride

The Diwali celebration at the Telluride House was a night to remember.

Diwali, or Deepavali, is the festival of lights, celebrated across India. While it has religious origins, it has evolved into a cultural festival. For most Indians, Diwali is a time to meet with friends and family, to eat, laugh and celebrate the triumph of good over evil, of light over darkness.

The evening kicked off with housemates and friends gathering in the courtyard to light diyas (clay oil lamps). We each set an intention for the year ahead as we lit them and had a moment of quiet reflection before beginning the fun!

Here, fun= lighting sparklers, with Sreya lighting a special mystery cracker that ended up being a flare, thus looking like an Indian Statue of Liberty. We sampled yummy Indian snacks like samosas, mithai (sweets) and even some local Indian chips, danced and grooved to Bollywood songs and got a lovely bonfire going.

It ended up being a night of energy, joy, and, of course full stomachs!
