Year in School: Doctoral Candidate
Matt is a PhD candidate in History at the University and has been in the House since 2011. Interested in the history of development theory, environmental alteration, and how gender, race, and class influenced government policy, his selection of a dissertation topic on New Zealand’s early colonial period (1840-1872) is more than just a desperate attempt to spend time in the southern hemisphere. When not in the library leafing through books on British, European, and colonial histories, or typing dutifully away at a dissertation, he can often be found playing obscure sports or wishing that there were mountains in Michigan.
